Overview

Ziconotide is a synthetic copy of omega-conotoxin MVIIA, a 25-amino-acid peptide with three disulfide bonds found in the venom of the cone snail Conus magus. It blocks N-type voltage-gated calcium channels on pain-sensing nerves in the spinal cord's dorsal horn, stopping the release of pain-signaling neurotransmitters. It is FDA approved for severe chronic pain.
