Overview

Endogenous incretin hormone released by L cells in small intestine. Rapidly degraded by DPP-4 enzyme (half-life ~2 minutes). GLP-1 binds to GLP-1 receptor on pancreatic beta cells, activating Gs proteins to increase cAMP, which enhances glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and promotes beta cell proliferation.
