Overview
Orforglipron (LY3502970, OWL833) is an oral, once-daily non-peptide small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly for type 2 diabetes and obesity. It activates the same GLP-1 receptor as injectable drugs like semaglutide, curbing appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and triggering insulin release when blood sugar is high. Unlike peptide-based GLP-1 drugs, it is stable enough to be taken as a plain oral tablet with no food or water restrictions. FDA approved in April 2026 under the brand name Foundayo for obesity/overweight with comorbidities.
