Overview

Endogenous hormone released by S cells in duodenum in response to acidic chyme. Used in diagnostic tests for pancreatic function. Secretin binds to secretin receptor on pancreatic duct cells and gastric parietal cells, activating Gs proteins to increase cAMP, stimulating bicarbonate secretion and inhibiting acid secretion.
