Colistin is a cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic that binds to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in Gram-negative outer membranes through electrostatic interactions, disrupting membrane integrity and causing cell death. It is reserved as a last-resort antibiotic for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative infections.
