Overview
Cosyntropin (also known as Cortrosyn, ACTH 1-24, Tetracosactide) is a synthetic fragment of ACTH containing the first 24 amino acids that bind the melanocortin-2 receptor (MC2R) on adrenal cortex cells, triggering a rapid burst of cortisol synthesis and release. It is FDA-approved for diagnostic use as the standard dynamic endocrine test for adrenal insufficiency.
