Overview
Desmopressin (dDAVP) is a synthetic analog of natural vasopressin, designed as a selective agonist at the V2 vasopressin receptor. It retains the water-retaining (antidiuretic) effect while avoiding the V1 receptor-mediated blood pressure effects. It is an FDA-approved drug used for central diabetes insipidus, nocturnal enuresis, nocturia, and certain bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand disease and mild hemophilia A. V2 stimulation also triggers release of stored von Willebrand factor and factor VIII from blood vessel linings, aiding clotting.
