Overview
Afamelanotide, a 13-amino-acid synthetic analog of alpha-MSH. It binds and activates the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) on pigment-producing melanocytes, driving production of eumelanin, the dark, photoprotective form of melanin. FDA approved (2019) for Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP).
